Work in Progress Wednesday, 08.03.11

I didn't post last Wednesday. Why? Because I decided to knit instead! Here' what I've been up to:

The Rock Island shawl is coming along well. I finished up the edging and have moved on to the body. I should be done within a week, maybe two.

I've also been working on a few designs of my own, including a throw for the living room. This piece is borne from the more masculine, contemporary lace motifs that I've been working with. The original plan for this was to stitch three hexagons together into a more rectangular shape. After knitting it, I've decided it needs to be much larger (it's about 32 inches now) so I will recalculate and start again.

This one will make a nice kitteh throw, don't you think?

One more project on the needles... I decided last minute to participate in the WestKnits Mystery Shawl KAL (knit-along for you non-knitters). What is a mystery KAL you ask? It is a scheme in which you purchase yarn and essentially have no idea what your making ahead of time (except of course that it's a shawl). Then each week you receive snippets of the pattern instructions.

It's fun and maddening I tell you. The suspense even after just the first week is killing me. Five more days to go until clue #2. I won't post a progress pic here in case you don't want to be exposed to the progress (if you're planning on knitting it yourself) but you can see the progress in my Ravelry project page if you do want to see it. The photo on the right show the three Madeline Tosh merino light colors that I've chosen.

  1. Good luck with the KAL. I tried a Mystery shawl KAL a few years ago and never finished between a household move and losing the drive to figure out where I left of. I can't wait to see the finished project. This looks interesting already.

  2. Beautiful throw! I think your kitty loves it. The motifs are gorgeous... I will be attempting my first ever knit shawl once I finish this last sock. :)

  5. Thanks all! The mystery KAL is going to be interesting... It could go very right, or very wrong. Especially with colorwork like this. I love MadTosh so I know that if it doesn't work out, there are a thousand other things to do with the yarn!!!

Hey Tezra, you'll be needing a housewarming gift once you're moved, right? ;)

  7. I'm almost happy that I hadn't yet decided on my Mystery KAL colors and, even now, still have to dye some yarn (and hope it turns out!) because the 1st clue was NOT enough to sink my teeth into! I've never knit a mystery before and I am very excited!

Also, I now need to have bacon.

  9. Vicki, It's been a looong week waiting for the 2nd clue. I'm already so particular with patterns that I was really going out on a limb with this one. It only took a handful of minutes to knit it up, so definitely be happy that you get to see more before you go through the trouble. Are you sticking with the "earth & sky" theme, or some other color scheme?

Aww, Tez... Comments like that will definitely bump you higher up the finished object recipient list! <3
